A workplace committee that is required by Minnesota OSHA and should be comprised of one employee from each department.
What is a Safety Committee?
This piece of PPE needs to be inspected annually, comply with ANSI Z89.1-2003, and has to be replaced every 5 years. Contractors usually placed their training stickers on this.
What is a Hard Hat?
This device can be found all around the facility and should be present during hot work. Inspections are required monthly by plant personnel and annually by a third party.

Identifying area hazards and verifying area compliance with safety practices are all done during this weekly requirement.
What are Weekly Walkdowns?

The OSHA required label format for containers holding hazardous materials. These types of labels are used around the globe.
What are Global Harmonized System Labels?
These gloves provide excellent insulation and grip but should not be used when handling corrosive materials.
What are Monkey gloves?
This device is used to determine air quality and must be bump checked daily before use.

These are required to be done once per shift rotation, are part of our bonus, and a great way to observe if a job is being performed safely.

Handrails, non-slip treading on CTWR stairs, and physical barriers around open holes are an example of this safety management method.
What are Engineering Controls?
This type of PPE can be used for all types of jobs and is required for a handful of jobs.
Depending on the rating and type of PPE, it can help to minimize exposures to hazards such as chemical absorption through the skin, severe lacerations, thermal burns, shock protection and harmful temperature extremes.
What is Hand Protection?
A deceleration device containing a drum wound line which can be slowly extended from or retracted onto the drum under slight tension during normal employee movement and which after onset of a fall automatically locks the drum and arrests the fall.
What is a self-retracting lifeline?
An assessment found in Attachment 1 of the Fall Protection SMP that details how to protect yourself against falls when performing work in different areas of the facility.
What is the fall hazard assessment?
Not often considered hazardous, large accumulations of wastepaper and cardboard, even when stored out of walkways to eliminate tripping hazards, can become this type of hazard.

These safety metrics can provide insight into areas of improvement before a serious accident occurs. They often consist of Audit Findings, First-aid cases, and AwwShite submissions.
What are Leading Indicators?
This section of a chemical SDS details all the necessary PPE needed when handling the chemical.

This device is red, requires a key to operate, and may be found on valves and breakers.
What are maintenance locks.
An assessment found in Attachment 1 of General Safety Rules SMP that is used to assess the hazards of various jobs on site and the PPE required for that job.
