What is YLS and how many do you need to attend by Senior Year?

YLS stands for Youth Leadership Series. It is a series of 6 mini conferences a year where LTs and high school students throughout Milwaukee can attend professional and personal workshops. 

LTs must attend 5 by the time they graduate from the program.

What is the primary focus your first year as an LT?

During their the 1st year, LTs focus on inner exploration.

What is the minimum participation requirements to graduate?

  • Complete a minimum of 1 Community Engagement Project ( Leadership Lab)

  • Leadership Development Series (minimum of 5) (Youth Leadership Series)

  • Post Secondary Planning Session (Seniors)

  • Leadership Portfolio Seminar (Seniors)

  • Minimum of 1 internship with PEAK

  • Community Service (minimum 8)

Based off of the feedback from LT’s there are 4 common things that set our Leadership Program apart from the rest. What are they?

What is SUSO?

SUSO- Step Up, Stand Out is the the first interaction with perspective LTs. Those who are interested in becoming an LT must attend SUSO to get a better understanding of the role, responsibility and commitment of an LT.

What is the focus area for 2nd year LTs?

Second year LTs focuses on Community and Team.

SEL Focus: Social awareness and relationship skills.

What are general LT group agreements?

Is the Senior Scholarship only for post secondary education?

No. LT scholarships can be used for anything that is contributing to their success post graduation. (tuition, rent, transportation, business startup)

What are Leadership Labs and how many do you need to attend before you graduate?

Leadership Labs are for LTs to build their skills in project management and collaboration. They work together in creating a community action project.

LTs must complete a minimum of 1 project before graduation.

What is the focus area for your 3rd year as an LT?

3rd year LTs focus on teaching others.

SEL: Social Awareness and Responsible Decision Making.

How do they stay in good standing?

LTs who have meet the minimum requirements and demonstrate good behavior and leadership skills are considered good standing.

What LTs go to Camp?

To go to camp you have to apply and be selected for a camp internship.

This is decided based on application, interview, behavior and leadership throughout the year.

How many PEAK Community Service Days need to be completed by graduation? 

Community Service Days are opportunities for LTs to give back. 

LTs must complete 8 service days by the time they Graduate.

Moving forward Senior LTs will be considered Alumni. We will support them their Senior year on their transition into adulthood.

What are LT internships?

PEAK provides LT's an opportunity to intern in various departments both at LVC (camp) and Milwaukee (program center). 

Internships help LTs gain professional development and work experience.
