Coping Strategies

I keep losing! I am soooo mad! I throw all the toys on the floor and run away

What could I have done instead?

I can feel mad but this isn't nice. I can:

* ask for a break

* take deep breaths

* count to 10

* Tell others how I feel

I want to win so bad! Michelle is about to get a big number on chutes and ladders. I tell her, "I hope you get a chute and go all the way down."

Is that a think or say? WHY?

THINK its okay if I want to win but its not okay to TELL friends I hope they lose!

It can make Michelle feel sad and she won't want to play the game anymore

I went to my friends house and his mom was cooking. The house did not smell that good. I tell him, "Oh man! What is your mom cooking, your house smells bad!"

Think or say? Why?

THINK not say

My friends mom may probably worked really hard to make the food and I could hurt their feelings. If the house doesn't smell great I can ask to play outside so I don't smell it or I can tell my mom that I want to go home earlier.

In class my friends and I played Candyland. My friends all won and I never even made it to the castle. I gave up! I quit the game and left. Everyone cheated anyways. I call them all cheaters and walk away.

Is this being a good sport?

No! we don't call other people names, especially when playing. It is JUST a game and it is NOT a big deal. Sometimes I will win, sometimes I will lose.

Problem Solving
When playing with sister and she doesn't want to take turns, I'm feeling really mad! I yell at her and she runs away. What can I do?

I need to say sorry! It is not okay to yell at others even if I am feeling upset.
I can tell her to please take turns OR play something else.
