Lady Macbeth's guilty conscience has led her to sleepwalk and speak of her crimes. She wants to speak of it and get forgiveness but the secrecy has led to madness.

Blood is red and symbolizes life and loss of life. The spilling of blood means the loss of natural order to the world. The stain of blood means the guilt and regret of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and the knowledge that they can't go back. Macbeth's blood means the end of a reign of terror and confusion.

The crown on Duncan's crown symbolizes kindness and honour...he rules for the benefit of the kingdom. The crown on Macbeth's head symbolizes the selfish greed of one man who damages the kingdom. Malcolm's crown renews the kingdom.

Why is Macbeth a tragic hero.
A true soldier who fought bravely for the good of the kingdom who murders for solely his own purposes. The murder of Duncan leads Macbeth to no longer believe in the good and moral life but one that is based on hurting others in order to gain power and money. His actions eventually end in his own death. Even when faced with his own murder, he could not apologize.

What was the Great Chain of Being?
Elizabethan life was highly organized. It was believed that God chose the kings and thanes, dukes...and then the middle class or service men and then servants and then peasants. There was no movement between the classes.
