Tell me about the committees that you are on and do you feel supported to attend these meetings? Also how do you disseminate information from those meetings?

How does the professional practice model direct your care and how do you know you give good care?
Evidence based practice leads to better outcomes. Patient satisfaction scores and cards or partner salute cards give me reassurance to my care.

How do you know that you are using evidence-based practice?
Beth Polivka is our CNO. She oversees all the departments that have nurses in them. Her leadership is involved. She enjoys supporting the nurses in their careers and really likes to connect with everyone. She is engaging, for example she speaks at committee meetings and does a journey with the CNO video.
Do you feel that nursing has a voice in the organization? Can you give an example?
Sitting on a multi-deparmental committee like partnership gives a voice to not only nurses but RT and pharmacy ext. This committee has leadership on it and can make change happen.
Who made the patient assignments today, and what are they based on?
Current shift's Charge Nurse. Our Charge Nurses look at patient volume, patient acuity, nursing experience, and current Induction/Cesarean Section Schedule. All while trying to keep safety and AWHONN standards in mind.
How is your relationship with the physicians? and with clinicians from other dischiplines?
Bili-blankets, new TcB machines. Requesting of them.
Tell me your relationship with your manager and how do you access her when you have a question?
My manager has an open door policy and is easily accessible in person. She is respected and provides ways that I can grow as a nurse.
Are you certified? What value does that hold and what resources are available to help one get certified?
Monetary increase, but also drive to seek out updated information related to my practice. The pay-it-forward program pays for the exam in exchange for a small evidence based project and presentation.
What is your contribution to the budget? Can you think of something that you requested that was ultimately purchased?
Using resources correctly/ not being wasteful, Staffing correctly. Microwave for staff use, Covid carts for outside covid isolation rooms.
What are you doing for patient satisfaction?
Holiday gifts for patients (hats or footprints) hourly rounding, no pass for call lights ect.
Tell me about a new process, procedure, product or clinical practice that has been instituted on the unit within the past year. What was its impact?
New HDN orders, treating infants with high bilirubin quicker.
Think about a recent change on your unit. How did your manager help guide the unit during the change?
Examples: Covid, Falls policy, gaitbelts in the rooms, gavage feedings in the room/ radiant warmers in the room, accepting mag patients ect.

GNR recruiter, housewide orientation ect.
What are nurse sensitive indicators on your unit? Do you collect anything to measure the impact of nursing practice on patient outcomes and if so what does the data tell you.
Falls, CAUTIs, Patient Satisfaction.
What is the difference between staff nurse, charge nurse, and manager? Do you see the charge RN as a peer?
Staff RN performs bedside nursing, Charge RN makes assignments, delegates tasks, performs checks on the unit and supports the bedside RN. The manager oversees the budget, schedule and does performance evaluations.

warmers in the room, gavage feedings in the room
