What causes static electricity?

When positive and negative charges no longer balance

100

Magnets have how many poles?

2

100

What is a series circuit?

Resistors are arranged in a chain, so there is only one path to take around the circle

100

How does a compass work?

A compass needle will always point in a north or south direction because of the Earth's magnetic field at the North and South poles. This helps you find directions of east and west.

200

Name a conductor

copper, water, person, metal..

200

Where is the magnetic field the strongest?

near the poles

200

What is a parallel circuit?

Parallel circuits have two or more paths for the electric charge to follow

200

How does lightning work?

Positive particles move to the top of the cloud. Negative particles move to the bottom of the cloud. Negative particles jump out of the cloud to find the positive particles in the objects below.

300

Name an insulator

rubber, wood, rubber, glass

300

What are the magnetic poles called?

north and south

300

How do homes work on parallel circuits?

Parallell circuits have two or more paths for the electric charge to follow. A break in one part of circuit does not stop the charge from flowing. Within a multi-bulb system, a parallel circuit ensures that when a bulb burns out, the others will stay lit because each light has its own circuit. If it was a series circuit, all the bulbs would go out!

300

What is a conductor?

Allows electricity to flow

400

What charges repel each other?

positive and positive

negative and negative

400

What is an insulator?

Materials that slow or stop the flow of electricity

500

What are generators?

A generator is a machine that creates electric energy by turning coils of wire around powerful magnets. A generator uses magnets and wires to turn mechanical energy into electrical energy.

Wind power.

hydroelectric power
