To mand is human
Motivation is hard
Error correction time!
What even is a NET
Who makes mistakes?!
100

a mand is?

A demand for something!

100
What is the first step of getting motivation?

Give freebies and make yourself fun!

100

Your learner is scrolling, what does this mean?

The learner is saying a bunch of words, touching many icons, pressing many buttons (generally going through responses).

100

Where is NET done?

NET is done away from the table can be in the messy room, big room, anywhere!

100

When do you track data?

Live in the moment!

200

Do mands have to be vocal?

No! using PECs, signs, etc can are mands!

200

How do you tell if your learner is motivated?

Eye contact, reaching for toys, manding for items in the activity.

200

What do you do if a learner is scrolling?

Reset the item, action, etc. and pause the learner and give them the mand for the item or action (very similar to a count and mand)

200

What do you need in your NET plan?

What is the activity and theme? How are you going to ask the question in a new way? What materials do you need? What mands are you going to get! (Preferably novel) and a back up NET plan.

200

When do we start manding?

After getting motivation! Placing demands too soon can cause the learner to lose motivation

300

How often do we mand?

As much as possible! The more manding we can do the better.

300

My learner isn't motivated, what can I do?!

Be more fun and make the activity more entertaining to the learner, or, move on to a different activity! Not every learner is motivated for the same thing, keep trying!

300

What is fading by time?

Fading by time is a systematic way to build motivation and to teach mands! Begin by giving freebies while saying what the mand is, and when motivation is gained, withhold the reinforcer to give the learner a chance to mand for the item!

300

What materials have to be different in NET

As many as possible! Different questions, different cards (or real materials!) different location!

300

Is echoing a mand?

No! They are two different operants! Try to use an echo to mand transfer!

400

Is asking for something to be removed a mand?

Yes!

400

My learner is only motivated for one thing, what do I do?

You can use their interest to contrive new motivators! Bring new toys into that play and fade out the old motivator!

400

How do we error correct targets?

Give the correct answer and return to the target later!

400

What are some differences between ITT and NET

NETs are more natural! The questions should be related to the play and the reinforcers should make sense within the context of the play!

400

Do we always stick with our NET plan?

No! If the learner does not have motivation after several attempts with new items, we can move on to our backup!

500

Why do we mand?

To increase communication!

500

How can you contrive "Where" mands

Play with a toy and hide it when the learner is not looking. Tell the learner to do something that they need to do an activity.

500

How do we differentially reinforce in NET?

We give more or less of an item involved in the play! It should be as natural as possible.

500

When do we mand in a NET?

We mand throughout the NET! We want to avoid manding session - question period - manding session, as those are different than a NET. We want to mix questions and manding throughout the NET!

500

Do we reinforcer in NET?

Of course! We have to be aware of what is reinforcing to the learner so we can properly reinforce the proper behavior!
