Operational Definition: Elopement is operationally defined as Fred walking or running away from the current area and off property premises or attempting to evade staff in the community. Elopement can take the form of going into an unsafe area, attempting to run away, hiding from staff members, or leaving the home (AWOL). The onset of this behavior is when Fred leaves an area and the offset is when Fred has returned to the expected area for more than 5 minutes.
