Line
The weight of the container plus its contents.
Gross weight
A specified sum of money a customer leaves with the seller on special orders or to guarantee the return of a core.
Deposit
To hand over or deliver to a person's or company's possession or trust.
Consign
Designated area within a section of storage area, outlined by markings on columns, posts, or the floor.
Bay
Merchandise, in the store area, that is readily available for sale to customers.
Active Stock
More items received than ordered.
Overage
Storage of items in bins so that an item may be withdrawn without breaking open a package containing a number of such items.
Bin Storage
A person or company who is shipping the goods for resale. Also, another name for the shipper.
Consignor
The common practice of rehandling products already in storage so as to make room or to consolidate stock.
Re-warehousing
A process of counting limited inventory on a continuous basis.
Perpetual inventory count
Used items or castings such as starters, alternators, A/C compressors, and HD brake shoes accepted in exchange (partial payment) for remanufactured or new items.
Cores
The placement of a trailer at a designated site, where the trailer is detached and left in the full possession of the consignor, consignee, or other designated party. The trailer is unattended by the carrier’s employee and unaccompanied by a power unit.
Spotting
A legal agreement, originating with the shipper, between the shipper and carrier. It lists the number and types of pieces and a brief description of the contents and states terms of delivery. Used by carrier to prepare the waybill and accompany it to the consignee.
Bill of lading
To make a single unit for ease of handling; palletization bands, stretch wrapping, tape, or string are usually needed.
Unitize
The process of determining proper amounts of merchandise to order; based on supplies on hand and forecasting from past sales.
Inventory Control
A term used to describe a better quality assembly; for example, more new parts replaced, higher quality workmanship, extended warranty.
Remanufactured
Employees and companies can get insurance so that they are covered for the theft of goods and/or money by an insurance company called a Bonding Company.
Bonding
