The graduate degree that does not require an oral exam, unless a "creative component" is included in the program of study.
What is - THE MASTER OF ENGINEERING degree? The M. Eng. degree is generally a "coursework only" degree, and includes no credits for MSE 699/MSE 601 and no thesis work. See handbook for degree requirements.

This form must be completed by the end of your second semester, but it is recommended to complete it as soon as possible. It is the guiding document for your specific program.
What is - the POSC FORM? The POSC form is available on AccessPlus. It should be completed in consultation with your Major Professor as early as possible. It can be changed as needed.

What are the FOURTH OR FIFTH semester? This is not a requirement (and may vary), but this is a good target as you begin to plan your program. Refer to the MSE Graduate Handbook for details concerning the Ph.D. preliminary exam.

Those activities that you might perform in a laboratory or shop that require pre-planning, EHS training, site specific training, and proper documentation.
What are - ALL ACTIVITIES? No laboratory or shop activities can be performed without proper training and documentation under an EHS Standard Operating Procedure.

Who is the MAJOR PROFESSOR? The Major Professor sponsors your research, helps you establish your program of study, guides and mentors you through your graduate program, and evaluates your performance.

How does a PhD student get admitted for candidacy?

Your main point of contact in the MSE main office. The person to whom you submit all forms needing the DOGE signature and forms to be submitted to the Graduate College.
Who is the ELLIE MENDOZA, the graduate program coordinator? All forms requiring the DOGE signature must be submitted to the GPC, who will work with the DOGE to confirm that requirements are satisfied. Signed forms can be picked up usually within 24 hours.

Who are the STUDENT and the MAJOR PROFESSOR. The major professor will work closely with the student to assess the scope of work to be performed, identify the associated hazards, formulate a training plan, provide additional site-specific training.

What is the SEMESTER PROGRESS REPORT? Semester progress reports must be submitted by 5pm on the first day of final exam week. They are submitted through the MSE Graduate Program Blackboard site. They will be reviewed by your Major Professor and the DOGE.
