A farmer is crossing a river. He is taking with him a rabbit, some carrots, and a fox, and he has a small raft. He can only bring one item at a time across the river because his raft can only fit either the rabbit, the carrots, or the fox. How does he cross the river. (You can assume that the fox will not eat the rabbit if the man is present, and the rabbit will not eat the carrots if he is present, and neither the fox nor the rabbit will run away) In what order will the farmer bring the fox, rabbit, and carrots?
Take the rabbit over first. Switch the fox with the rabbit. The carrot and the rabbit will not be left alone. Take the carrots across. Take the rabbit to the other side. All three successfully crossed.
