Here are hourly rates of pay 7.55 8.0 9.25 9.75 10 10.25 If you added an hourly rate of pay of 30.00, what would that do to the mean? When adding the 30.00, is the mean still a good representation of the "average" amount made.
It would bring the mean way up. No- when adding the 30.00 the mean is brought way up. Therefore the mean, without the 30.00 better represents the hourly rates of pay.

What type of graph would you use to predict the world's population growth in the future?
What is a line graph.
100
Definition: ____________________ is information that is collected directly
What is primary data.
100
What type of graph would you use to compare the percent of Canada's population with each blood type?
A circle graph, because you are working with percentages.
100
Definition: ____________________ is information that is collected by someone else.
What is secondary data.
200
An organization of numerical data into categories based on the place values; the digits representing greater values are the stems, and the other digits are the leaves
What is a stem-and-leaf plot.
200
The number that occurs most often in a set of data; there can be one, or none.
What is the mode.
200
A graph with bars that show frequencies of data organized into intervals; the intervals line up side by side, without gaps, on the number line.
What is a histogram.
200
The space between two values; for example, 0-9 represents the interval from 0-9, including 0 and 9.
What is an interval.
200
The total number of individuals or items.
What is the population.
300
A part of the population that is used to make predictions about the whole population. (Surveying only one class in a school population.)
What is a sample.
300
When the results of a survey of one group are not likely to apply to another group selected from the same population.
What is biased results.
300
The counting of an entire population. (When you survey an entire school population).
What is a census.
300
Definition: ____________is the number of times that an event or item occurs
What is the frequency
300
A count of each item, organized by categories or intervals.
What is a frequency table.
400
A value that "lies outside" (is much smaller or larger than) most of the other values in a set of data.
What is an outlier.
400
The sum of a set of numbers divided by the number of numbers in the set.
What is the mean.
400
This type of graph represent the parts of a whole. Each ‘section’ or ‘slice of the pie' is a data percentage.
What is a circle graph.
400
Mean, median, mode
What are measures of central tendency.
400
The middle value in a set of ordered data.
What is the median.
500
What is the relationship between the size of a sample and how confident you can be in the results?
As you increase the size of the sample, the sample get's closer to the size of the population. Therefore, the results you get should be more representative of the entire population.
500
How do you know when to use the mean, median, or mode to compare sets of data?
Mode- the only measure that can be used for non-numerical data, you can have no modes, or several modes, most frequently occurring data. The mean is calculated using every item of data, so it can be affected by extremely low or extremely high values. The median is not affected as much by extreme values.
500
Why do you think a sample is often used instead of a census.
A sample is a smaller portion, it takes less time, and costs less money.
500
What type of graph would you use to represent the finish times of 10 runners in a race?
What is a bar graph.
500
What type of graph would you use to measuer the frequency of runners reaching the finish line each 30 min during an 8 h marathon?
What is a histogram.
