Dion is running a fundraiser by selling water bottles. On the way home, he sees an advertisement for a deal, 1 bottle for $2, he purchases 500. Later, he sports another advertisement, this time, 2 bottles for the price of $3. How much did he pay for the first deal and how much would he have saved if he bought the second deal?

First Deal: 1 Bottle for $2

  • Dion buys 500 bottles

  • Price per bottle = $2

  • Total cost = 500 × $2 = $1000

Second Deal: 2 Bottles for $3

  • Price per bottle = $3 ÷ 2 = $1.50

  • If Dion had bought 500 bottles at this rate:

    • Total cost = 500 × $1.50 = $750

Savings

  • Amount saved = $1000 − $750 = $250

Answer: He paid $1000 and if he bought the second option, he would have saved $250
