What is a Mixture?

Two more substances that when combined retain their physical properties and can be separated. (Trail Mix, Cereal and Milk, Legos)
100

This idea explains why the amount of a substance stays the same, even when it changes shape or form in a science experiment. What is this idea called?

Conservation of Matter, Conservation of mass. Matter can not be created or destroyed only transformed.

What are examples of Producers?

Flowers, Trees, Berries, Lettuce, Grass

100

What is a fossil?

The remains or evidence of a once living organism that is now extinct.
100

What are acquired physical traits?

A physical trait that is not inherited and is easily changed I.E. Hair Style, Nail Color, Facial Hair, Scar etc...

200

What tools can be used to separate mixtures? Provide at least three Tools/processes.

Tweezers, Sieves, Fingers, Coffee Filter, Magnets, Water (Density), Colander, Evaporation.

200
Explain what happens to salt when added to water?

The salt remains in the beaker, it has dissolved or spread evenly throughout the solvent(water).

200

Breakdown dead organisms into nutrients back into the soil.

Decomposers.

200

True or False

Fossils come from most recently deceased animals.

False- Fossils are evidence of animals that have not been alive for a extended period of time and are possibly extinct.

200

What is a inherited trait? Give at least two examples

A physical trait that has been inherited from ones parent. I.E. Hair Color, Eye Color, Freckles etc...

300

Give me three examples of a solution. Describe how to separate at least one of the examples.

Lemonade, Salt-Water, Kool-aid, Lemon Juice and water, Sugar Water.- Evaporation.

A scientist placed 100 grams of ice in a closed jar. When the jar was placed on a scale after 30minutes the jar still read 100g. Why did the scale still read 100g.

The ice did not leave the jar, the ice only melted turning into liquid water changing its physical state.
300

These symbols represent the energy flowing in a food web.

What are Arrows?

300

An archeologist uncovers a fossil of a animal with gills, what can the archeologist infer about the area the fossil was found millions of years ago.

The archeologist can infer that the environment years ago was a marine environment.

300

A trait that is passed on from generation to generation.

What is a Inherited Trait?
400

The two different parts of a solution

What are Solutes and Solvents.
400

100g of ice is added to 200g of water. One hour passes and then a student notices the Ice is gone. How could he prove the water from the ice is still present.

Find the mass of the cup of water.

400
Explain the repercussions of removing the Primary consumers from a food chain.

The Producer population would increase, while the Secondary, and Tertiary populations would decrease.

400

Fossils give us a glimpse into the past... Identify some pieces of information that fossils can tell us about past environments.

Animal and Plant fossils tell us about the environments surface... Fish fossils- marine environment, Legged animal fossils- Terrestrial Environment.
400

True or False, getting a tear in your clothes is an Inherited physical trait.

False, A tear in your clothes would be considered a Acquired physical trait.

500

Can be separated using Evaporation.

What is a solution?

500

If 50g of wood is burned in a closed system, and 5g of ash remains. What can you infer about what happened to the remaining 45g.

You can infer that the 45g of missing material was released in smoke(Gas), some of the wood was turned into the ash.

500

Can you classify the different levels in a food chain in order from greatest population to smallest population?

Producers, Primary Consumers, Secondary Consumers, Tertiary Consumers- Decomposers.

500

Describe the differences between a Cast Fossil and a Impression Fossil.

Cast Fossil- a solid copy of an organism that forms when minerals fill the space left by a decayed organism in sediment.

Impression Fossil-  forms when an organism leaves an imprint in soft earth, such as mud, silt, or sand, and the imprint hardens into a fossil

500

If a parent has blue eyes and the other parent has brown eyes. What is the percentage that the offspring will have blue eyes?

The percentage of having blue eyes is 50%.
