What was the name of the ancient scientist who discovered a very important principle about density?
Who is Archimedes.
These are examples of a chemical reaction. (list at least three examples)
What are gaseous bubbles, a change in temperature, the formation of a new substance (a precipitate), color change, or a change in odor.
True of false? The formula for density is d = v/m
What is false.
Trail mix is an example of this type of mixture.
What is heterogeneous.
Yeet the Lizard filled her hydroflask with some ice cold water. She then poured a small packet of koool-aid into the flask, shook the bottle, and made some refreshing lemonade. What type of mixture did Yeet make?
What is a homogeneous mixture.
MatPat, the Game Theorist, is in the process of making a video about the new Zelda game. He insists that the game is wrong when it shows that Link can easily swim in swampy muck. He researched the density of Link's sword and found that the metal has a density of 6.3 g/ml and that swampy muck has a density of 1.4 g/ml.
MatPat theorizes that the sword would pull link down toward the bottom of the swamp and that it would be impossible for him to easily swim.
Is MatPat correct? Why?
MatPat is correct. Objects with a higher density sink to the bottom of liquids that are less dense. The density of Link's sword has a high dennsity of 6.3 g/ml and the muck has a low density of 1.4 g/ml.
Link would have a very hard time in the water.
Laura Lemur ran into a power line while swinging in the trees and singed her fur. :(
Is the fact that she conducted electricity an example of a physical property or a chemical property?
What is
A physical property.
Physical properties are conductivity (can an object conduct electricity), color (what color is the object), luminosity (how bright the object is), boiling point, and melting point.
What are the three main types of matter?
What are gas, liquids, and solids
Yeet the Lizard is telling his Pueblo friends about his homeland. He was born on an island that floats hig in the air. All baby lizards born on this island are fed a diet of sugar, table salt, and chocolate milk.
Yeet's friends ask Yeet to label his baby foods as mixtures or pure substances. Which foods are mixtures and which are substances?
Substances: table salt and sugar
mixtures: chocolate milk
Vscogirl measured the volume of water in a Hydroflask beaker at 14 ml. When she added her shell necklace to the beaker, the water level went up to 22.2 ml. What was the volume of the shell necklace?
What is
8.2 ml
Subtract the volume of the water from the volume of shell necklace and water, so 22.2 ml - 14 ml = 8.2 ml
J-Dog needs to calculate the density of some magic beans he found. He weighed the beans on a balance and found they had a mass of 14.8 g. He then used a graduated cylinder and found that their volume was 2 ml.
What was the density of the magic beans?
d = m /v
d = 14 g / 2.2 ml
d = 7.4 g/ml
The density of the beans is 7.4 g/ml
Flammability (does it burn), toxicity (is it poisonous), reactivity (does it react), oxidation (does it rust) are all examples of which one?
Physical property or chemical property?
These are are examples of CHEMICAL PROPERTIES
What is the law of the conservation of matter?
What is
Matter cannot be created of destroyed.
How does gravity affect mass?
Mass does not change with gravity.
Remember, an astronaut weighs less on the moon, but he still has the same mass. Basically, he is still made up of the same amount of "stuff", but the gravitational force of the moon is less than that of earth. He therefor weighs less on the moon.
Is air a pure substance or a mixture?
Air is a homogeneous mixture of the gaseous substances nitrogen, oxygen, and smaller amounts of other substances.
draw a density column for the following liquids
Rubbing alcohol 0.79 g/ml
water 1.0 g/ml
honey 1.42 g/ml
glass bead 1.33 g/cm3
Ice cube 0.92 g/ml
Rubbing alcohol 0.79 g/ml
Ice cube 0.92 g/ml
water 1.0 g/ml
glass bead 1.33 g/cm3

Is burning paper a physical change or a chemical change?
Is ripping paper into small pieces a physical change of a chemical change?
Burning paper= chemical change
ripped paper = physical change
What is an atom?
Atoms are the building blocks of matter.
Mr. Mac's famous mountain lion weighs 48 pounds on the moon. What does it weigh on Earth?
Mr. Mac's mountain lion weighs 288 pounds on Earth.
How do we determine the weight of an object on the moon?
We divide by 6.
What are the two labels we use when we write density?
What are
g/cm3 or g/ml
What is the chemical formula for this compound?
H2SO4
H2SO4
Time to speak like a mathematician!
Can you spot the relationship between the numbers?
Weight on Earth Weight on Other Planets
9 kg 0.9 kg (planet 1)
12 kg 1.2 kg (planet 2)
78 kg 780 kg (planet 3)
1 kg 10 kg (planet 4)
Objects on planets 1 and 2 weigh 10 times LESS than those on Earth.
Objects on planets 2 and 4 weigh 10 times MORE than those on Earth.
Dipper and Rose want to make some models of some molecules. They decide that they want to model the molecule for sugar. The formula for sugar is:

How many Carbon atoms do they need? How many hydrogen atoms do they need? How many oxygen atoms do they need?
What is
6 Carbon
12 Hydrogen
6 Oxygen
The sea turtles have finally had enough of the plastic straws littering the ocean. They formed a special task force of the smartest sea turtles in the ocean and called it "Turtle Taskskskers". They gathered all of the straws and burned them up on the beach. They reasoned that they had completely fixed the problem because they destroyed all of the plastics that are polluting their home.
Is the tasksksk force correct? Why or why not?
Unfortunately they are NOT correct. They forgot the Law of the Conservation of Matter which states that matter can neither be created or destroyed.
Now the chemicals that composed the plastic straws are now in the air.
