Trading.

The headdresses made them more recognized in a crowd.

How did people become slaves?
Prisoners of war who were not sacrificed would become slaves, and impoverished individuals sometimes sold themselves or family members into slavery.
What did peasants do in the growing season?
They spent most of their time in their fields farming.

Middle class.
