1. The Aztecs had wooden clubs and bows and arrows. The Europeans had superior weapons of metal. 2. Cortes had Malinche, a woman who served as a translator. He also formed alliances with the Tlascalans who were at war with Montezuma. 3. When Cortes returned with numerous ships and more soldiers, they blocked in the city cutting off food supply and water to the city.
