In your group - Create a vivid example of imagery.
Imagery = language or words that appeal to the senses (sight, sound, touch, smell, taste). Did you get it?
In a story, this is what you call conversations between characters.
What is dialogue.
What would they get?
The central theme of "Earth and Water and Sky" is that people who pay attention can often see things others don't. The text states, " David couldn't understand why he seemed to be the only one who saw how amazing it was for a squirrel to run down a tree head first, or how unique each days sky full of clouds was." This shows that David pays attention to the little things while other kids don't. The text also states," Amazingly, the extraterrestrial rock had landed almost exactly in the center of the Thinking Pond, its immense heat and force evaporating the water within a split second." This shows that David has got to witness the meteorite falling down to earth into the pond because he was paying attention to things while others weren't.
This is an obvious "2 out of 2"
Logical choice of theme, logical evidence and good use of transitions to introduce the evidence.
What would they get?
In the short story "Earth and Water and Sky," after the meteorite hits the earth, David Brenner is characterized as curious. I think this because when the meteor hit, "Cautiously but curiously, he headed in the direction of the Thinking Pond," which shows that he was very curious about what had happened. I also think this because instead of just going home, he waited for the meteor to cool down and "took his sketch pad out of his backpack," to draw the meteor. This shows that he wanted to stay and observe the meteor.
What is "2 out of 2"
They answer the question and use two logical details from the text to support their answer.
Name one thing you should do the night before the state test?

In your group - Create a logical example of a metaphor. Think about what a metaphor does...
It compares two things directly. Did you get it?
In the exposition of a story, what are two literary elements that are usually introduced to the reader?
Setting and characters.
What would they get?
"There is more to nature then you really know"
What is "0" out of "2"
They person did not address the question. There is no evidence.
What would they get?
David Brenner is characterized as an extraordinarily multifaceted individual whose post-meteorite disposition becomes an amalgamation of perplexing philosophical introspection and inexplicable existential bewilderment. His demeanor radiates an almost ostentatious display of hyperbolic contemplation, as though he is perpetually entangled in a labyrinth of his own cognitive dissonance. Furthermore, his reactions embody a paradoxical synthesis of enigmatic resilience and bewildering ambiguity, which amplifies the overall sense of abstruse complexity surrounding his character. Ultimately, Brenner exemplifies a profoundly ineffable persona whose actions and thoughts transcend conventional comprehension and venture into the realm of intellectual obscurity.
What is "1" out of "2"
They answered the question... but did not back it up logically with TWO details from the text.
Name one thing you should do in the morning before the state test?
What is eat a good, healthy, filling breakfast!
In your group - Create a logical example of a personification. Think about what personification does...
Personification gives life like qualities to something that usually does not. Did you get it?

What would they get?
"The central theme of the story is the beauty of nature, for example in the texts says ''A squirrel to run down a tree head first or how unique each day's sky age.''
This answers the question and has one piece of evidence.
This is a "1 out of 2"
What would they get?
In the story David Brenner is characterized as a weird kid. One example is, "It was a long hike through the woods to the Thinking Pond, but David Brenner didn't mind. He'd been going there for three years, ever since he was ten and had found the lonely, stream-fed pool while exploring one afternoon. He liked to spend time there than he liked doing anything else." Another example is, "The other kids thought he was kind of weird for going off into the woods by himself"
What is "0" out of "2"
They person answered the question, but this characterization comes BEFORE the meteorite hits.

In your group create an example of hyperbole. Think of what a hyperbole does?
A hyperbole exaggerates. Did you create a good example?
This is the life message of the story? Please be able to explain with an example...
Theme. What is one theme we have talked about this year from a story or poem we have analyzed?
What would they get?
A central theme of the story is people are different but, being yourself can lead to new adventures. I say this because in the text it says " The other kids thought he was kind of weird for going off into the woods by himself so often." This helps support my central theme because this shows how he is different. An example to add on to this is that him being himself even though he was different led to him having a new adventure because a meteorite went flying by him and into the thinking pond. This proves my theme because it shows him being different led to the new adventure of him seeing a meteorite fly by and into the thinking pond.
This answer is structured a bit differently than others, and uses the word "I," but fullfils all the requirements of the question.
This is a "2 out of 2"
What would they get?
The character trait about David Brenner that is revealed after the meteorite hits is curious because the author is curious about what's happening in the woods.
Definitely a "1" out of "2"
The question is answered, but the evidence is lacking.
What are the dates for the 2026 NYS Test?
What is April 14th and 15th.
Give an example of an allusion? Think of what an allusion does...
An allusion is a reference to a something created in history, be it fiction or non-fiction.
Did you do it?
What would they get?
That nature is full of surprises. David was shocked when he saw the meteorite and was more shocked when he got hit to the ground, he also took out his notepad and started asking himself questions of where it came from.
This would receive a "1 out of 2"
The person gives good evidence and also has a theme, but never addresses the question in a full sentence.
What would they get?
David Brenner is characterized after the meteorite hits the earth as a critical thinker. For example, "He wondered where the meteorite had come from. Maybe an asteroid or a comet passed too close to a planet or the sun, and a chunk of it had been pulled off by gravity." This shows that David is thinking like a scientist, breaking down current possibilities. He is thinking about the extra step. Asking the where's and how's in his mind. Another example that shows he is characterized as a critical thinker after the meteorite hits earth is when, "Probably no one knew that part of it had survived its fiery journey through the earth's atmosphere." This shows that he is processing what others are thinking, and developing other scenarios using scientific facts. He is jumping into other people's shoes. This proves that after the meteorite hits earth David Brenner is characterized as a critical thinker.
What is a "2" out of "2"
This is a very well constructed response with logical answers, evidence and transitions.
What are the three types of questions you will have to answer on the NYS test next week?
What is multiple choice, short response and extended response.
