The supreme court made the expansion of medicaid optional for states, which left millions of low income adults without coverage.

How does this decision affect people who make too much money to qualify for Medicaid but not enough to afford private health insurance?

This decision will probably leave most of these adults without health insurance. It will lead to people choosing between seeing a doctor and receiving treatment or not. If people without health insurance choose to still seek care, they will be faced with expensive medical bills that they will have difficulty paying.

Starting in early 2027, adults will need to work, volunteer, or attend school for at least eighty hours per month to qualify for or keep medicaid coverage.

Do you think these work requirements encourage personal responsibility or do they make health care more difficult to access?

As a group, we think that there should be work requirements because if someone is perfectly healthy, they should try their best to work. Also, there are exceptions for people who really can't work.

The Chapter 2 reading suggests that healthy middle income employees pay more to the government than they receive in health services. On the other hand, lower income individuals receive more health services than they pay to the government.

Is it fair that healthier middle income people pay more into programs like medicaid than they receive in health care?

We think that it is necessary that those who have a higher based income pay more in taxes in order to benefit those who cannot afford basic health care.

After reading the articles, we understand that the affects of medicaid are primarily positive.

Recognizing this, should the expansion of medicaid at the federal level even be a choice, or should it be mandated for all states to ensure that low-income individuals have access to affordable healthcare?

We believe that medicaid expansion should be mandated for all states. This would reduce the number of people who are uninsured and ensure that low income people always have access to healthcare. People who truly can't afford medical bills would never have to live with the stress of medical debt.

In article 18, Republicans support medicaid work requirements in an effort to encourage personal responsibility. However, Democrats argue that these requirements lead to people losing health insurance due to paperwork and requirement issues.

What are ways the government can ensure people won't lose their coverage, while also encouraging personal responsibility?

The government should put more effort into assisting people with paperwork and giving people reminders about deadlines. This would guarantee people would not lose coverage for technical issues. Another way would be supporting people in finding volunteer opportunities or jobs while still offering them coverage.

In reading 19, it is explained that enrollees will have eligibility checks twice a year, instead of once annually. More frequent checks and paperwork changes could cause people who miss deadlines to lose their eligibility.

Should someone who is still eligible for Medicaid lose their coverage because they missed paperwork or their checks due to being misinformed?

We think that there should be a grace period for missing deadlines as well as offering an appeals process for getting coverage back.
