Do NOT call a Medical code, phone medical so he can be brought to medical to be seen
What is a minimum requirement for a "check one" call over the radio?
They are unable to walk to medical
What do I do if someone asks for a band-aid
Do not call medical because someone needs a band-aid unless they are bleeding a lot don't call for band-aids!
What do I do if my inmate is blue? (name at least 3 things you should do)
Check for a carotid pulse, check for breathing if both are absent begin CPR and call for an AED, an oxygen tank and a MEDICAL CODE
If I call medical to my unit what do I need to do before medical arrives?
lock down the unit
What is Chest pain
If they appear to be in severe distress then calling medical to the unit is appropriate
What is visualized Vaginal bleeding while pregnant?
Medical Code! this could be an obstetric emergency requiring immediate medical attention to save mom and baby!
Exhausting so DON'T DO IT, tell them to fill out a sick call
What do I do if my inmate is struggling to breath and is starting to turn colors
Call for a Medical code and call for an Oxygen tank and AED. Check if they use a rescue inhaler
If I am conducting med pass with medical and medical places one of my inmates on a 24 or sends them seg what do I do?
Medical has the same disciplinary capabilities as officers and if they seg or 24 someone you should enforce it and stand behind your medical staff
What is unresponsive (3 step answer)
Check the inmate physically if they don't respond to touch then apply painful stimuli (sternal rub etc) if still no response call a MEDICAL CODE then check for a pulse and if they are breathing if they aren't begin CPR!
What is a minor/moderate injury?
If they appear to be unable to ambulate to medical it is appropriate to call medical to the unit.
What is the #1 thing you should always do before bringing an inmate down to medical?
CALL MEDICAL
What do I do if I suspect my inmate is overdosing?
Call a medical code, put on your fentanyl protected gloves, then assess if you need to start CPR
If someone is refusing "life saving" medications like blood pressure medications, heart medications, etc what can happen?
They can be placed on both a medical watch and 15/3 MH watch
What is bleeding? (This one is tricky)
Use your judgement
is it a lot? is it a minimal amount? Do they appear symptomatic of blood loss?
If I feel medical should come to my unit to check one because I am unsure of the inmates current health status what should I do?
When in doubt have medical come to you. Always error on the side of safety
What is discharge planning?
If inmates fill out a sick call stating Discharge planning within a week of release they will be provided with a 7 day supply of all prescription medications.
What is BLS?
Basic life support
If you call a medical code what 3 things should you do?
Call the exact location (cell #), remove excess inmates from the cell, call for needed resources i.e oxygen, AED, a bus if necessary
