Left Sided Heart Failure
Starts as weakness and tingling sensations in the legs that moves up the legs to the thorax and arms, can lead to paralysis within 2 weeks of onset
Guillain-Barre Syndrome
maternal hypotension and fetal distress due to placental hypoperfusion. Occurs when the inferior vena cava is compressed. Typically a 3rd trimester issue.
Supine Hypotension Syndrome
Most common 2-7 years old
Sick, anxious, tripod or sniffing position, pallor, cyanosis, stridor, sudden onset of high fever and sore throat

JVD, Peripheral edema, Ascites, orthopnea, Hepato-Jugular reflex (distension of the neck veins when pressure applied to the liver)
Right Sided Heart Failure
Gradual onset of symptoms: tremor, postural instability, rigidity, bradykinesia, aphagia, dystonia
Parkinson Disease
Sudden onset of severe abdominal pain that often radiates to the back, signs of shock, can have internal or external bleeding, usually occurs in the 3rd trimester

Highly contagious disease. common cold symptoms: coughing, sneezing, runny nose, "whoop" sound
Pertussis "whooping cough"
Stiff lungs (low compliance), known as "shock lung" from diffuse damage from mechanical ventilation and high oxygen concentrations for prolonged period.
Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Syncope, Absent/reduced pulses, Unequal pulse strengths (Right VS Left), Tearing sensation in back, Flank pian, Scapular pain, Pain radiating into the legs
Dissecting Aortic Aneurysm
Episodes of spontaneous tinnitus, dizziness, hearing loss, balance disorders
Meniere Disease
Infection that can pass to the newborn if mother has it. Illness of infant manifests within 7 days of life. Can cause pneumonia, septic shock, and meningitis
Group B strep
Genetic disease that primarily affects the respiratory and digestive systems. Copious amounts of thick mucus, tachypnea, chest pain, crackles, accessory muscle usage, nasal flaring
