I love to quilt - that's when you make blankets out of different fabrics. I also like to go hiking, go to the zoo, play with my nieces, and I love to read. I also like to play video games, watch murder mysteries from Great Britain, and hang out with my husband and my pets.

Spaghetti is my favorite food - especially if it's cold. 🍝🍝🍝

I have 7 pets at home - 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 1 tortoise.

I used to teach 2nd grade, and my first year teaching I taught 3rd grade.

What other two states did Mrs. H live in? (She lived in one state for middle school and another state for high school and college.)

I moved to Denver, Colorado, for middle school. Then, I moved to Edgewood, New Mexico, and went to Moriarty High School. I moved to Portales, New Mexico, for college.

Is Mrs. H an artist? 

Yes, I am. I like to paint pictures - especially animals. I've sold some of my works at craft fairs.

I love dolphins! 🐬 (I love all animals, really, but if I had to pick one, it would be those amazing ocean mammals!)

Does Mrs. H have any kids? 

No, I don't have kids of my own. Each year that I teach, my students become like my kids.

True or False: Mrs. H gives lots of worksheets, because they're good practice. 

False. While we will do worksheets, it's very important to me that we do a lot of projects, readings, and art. I like to make learning fun!

Where did Mrs. H work when she was in high school? 

I worked at Wildlife West in Edgewood. If you go to the Caboose there, my name is painted inside.

What genre(s) of books does Mrs. H like to read the most? 

I like murder mysteries. I'm on book 17 of a series called the Sneaky Pie Brown books - which is about a young woman who lives in the country and she solves mysteries with her three pets - her little Corgi dog, Tucker, and her two cats, Mrs. Murphy and Pewter. Can you guess why I like them so much?

I love Hawaii; it's the best place I've ever visited. 🏝️

My husband's name is Will, and we've been together for 10 years.

The other two teachers are Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Chavez (who taught 3rd grade last year).

Mrs. H used to volunteer in different places. (Volunteer means that she worked there, but didn't get paid.) Where is one place she volunteered in Albuquerque? 

I used to a docent (a special volunteer) at the Albuquerque Zoo. I've been fortunate to meet a lot of the animals there.

All of my past students will tell you that I can get very cranky if I don't do something first thing every morning. What is that thing that I need to do? 

I need to drink my coffee! As the sign says, "First I drink the coffee, then I teach the things!" β˜•

I love dinosaurs, but my favorite is the T-rex. πŸ¦–

My dogs are named Harris, Willow, and Winston. My cats names are PigCat, Duchess, and Marmalade. My tortoise is called Franklin.

Before she became a teacher, what did Mrs. H want to do for a career? 

I wanted to become a zoologist.

Who did I live with for most of my childhood? 

I lived with my grandparents - my Meme (my grandma) and my Grandpa. My mom and my younger brother lived with us sometimes. I moved back in with my mom when I was 13.

What is Mrs. H most proud of? 

I'm proud of being a teacher. I was the first person in my family to go to college and get a degree. It was hard for me, and it took a lot of work - but I did it. I had a rough childhood, and what I want most is to make school a safe, happy place for all of my students.
