Is a part of the School Counselor's job to play and hang out with you when they can?
Yes. When I can she will be in the lunchroom, recesses or at programs or fun parties in your classroom. You will also see me in your classroom at least twice a month, coming to get students in your class for small groups and helping during Peer Leaders and Hope Squad activities.
One on One or in groups I can only speak once with you without Parent's Permission Slip.

False. You might get called to check in, for small groups, for special events, to help solve a problem or to write a witness statement.
Can you walk to the counselor's office whenever you want?
No! If my door is closed please check in with the office to make an appointment. I am not always in my office.
If an emergency happens you can come immediately if your Teacher gives you a slap bracelet.

No! As long as you are not being hurt, hurting yourself, or being bullied, it is all confidential information.

What is use kind words, be a bucket filler, take care of library books, clean up after yourself, etc.,?
As soon as you leave a note, the counselor will come and get you immediately.
FALSE. It will be as soon as I can. If not the same day, within a day or two.
Can you come visit the counselor during recess?
Yes, if you have a Slap Bracelet from an adult in the building. If I am not in you can go and talk to the office, or ask them when I can see them.
What days of the week is Mrs. Doutre at my school?
Everyday!!! She is so lucky!

Death of someone you love, arguments with friends, feeling sad or lonely, needing help organizing your school work and time, being bullied, feeling frustrated or just needing someone to listen to your thoughts and feelings.
Give me an example of being kind to our school and classmates.
Helping others when they are hurt, not being a bully, reporting bullying, cleaning up our school, being kind, helping teachers and students.
Teachers or Parents may request that the school counselor invite a student in for an individual counseling session.

Should you ask friends, classmates or other students why they went to see me?
No. The things we discuss in counseling are private. We need to be respectful of our friends. Ms. Doutre will never tell you why your friend or someone else was in her office. If someone wants to share with you, they can, but they do not have to or made to feel bad for not sharing.
How many students does the School Counselor help?
The entire school, all 480 students.
If you are dealing with a bully, should you tell an adult or keep it a secret?
Tell an adult at school or home. If the problem continues, then please see Mrs. Doutre or the office for help in solving the issue.
How can you demonstrate responsibility in class?
What is pay attention in class, do you classwork, ask questions when you don't understand, turn in your homework, not talking to your neighbor, etc.,?
The only time that you should have any contact with the school counselor is when you have a big problem!
False. There is not problem to small. Mrs. Doutre may also call you in for other things, like friendship circles, college & career, problem solving or just to check in.
If you feel a friend is going through a difficult time with friends or family should you help them go see the school counselor?
Yes! Friends help other friends. Do not keep things like this a secret. You are the eyes and ears of our school. It is the adults in this building's job to do our best to keep you safe and make sure you are happy. We cannot do it without your help.
If you need to see the school counselor, what do you do?
Ask your teacher if you can take a break to see the counselor and then head to her office. If she is not in you can visit the office or leave me a note.
If a friend tells you a secret that he/she is being hurt by someone, should you keep that secret?
No. You must tell an adult. Tell an adult or the school counselor as soon as you can. You can bring your friend with you to tell the adult or come for them if they do not feel comfortable.
Yes or No Does Ms. Doutre hold you to high expectations academically, helping to keep others safe and to learn and do your best everyday?
Yes. I always expect you to do your best and will help you have your best learning chance. This does not look the same for everyone.
You can tell your school counselor anything, and she will keep it confidential!
False. Most of the things we do talk about are confidential, which means I won't tell anyone else at all.
However, I may need to report if someone is hurting you, you are hurting yourself, or you are hurting someone else. My job is to keep you safe and happy, so I can't let anyone harm you.
Is it the School Counselor's job to solve the problem you are going through?
No. The School Counselor can help you gather ideas, solutions or answers to your problem.
You are the one making the best choice for yourself. The School Counselor will help guide you, give you tools to help and support you in any further help you may need.
