False - Admin should be involved in these cases, but a school counselor can definitely help support if you need to move the other students in the class to a safe space and/or help the student regulate their emotions.
How often and for how long does a school counselor meet with a student?
Generally, once a week for eight weeks. A counselor meets with a student for short-term counseling.
If more is needed, it is possible for the counselor to provide families with outside resources.
How do you refer a student for group counseling?
You can fill out a Group Referral Form throughout the school year and/or refer students to COST.
The counselor will send out a Group Referral Form in September to start Fall Groups in October (in December to start Winter Groups in January, in March to start Spring Groups in April).

Yes! I will contact families after the 8 sessions are over and discuss next steps, e.g. referral for more individual or group counseling on another topic, or outside resources.

True! We will have a Wellness Center this year in Room 2, which I have named Weibel Wildcat Room.
The Wildcat Room will be where I host Lunch Lounge. It will have games and activities students can do, books they can read, a calm corner to practice coping skills, art supplies for students to express themselves, etc. If we are able to get a school counseling intern in the future, we may be able to host more groups and conflict resolution in there as well.
