You always need to ask an adult for permission to see the social worker! There are times where we may not be in our office, are with other students, or are not in the building. It is important that your teacher or another adult confirms that the social worker is ready to see you!

Sometimes! We work together as a team and I may talk to your teachers or other staff about how I can best support you at school.

If someone is hurting you, you want to hurt someone else, you want to hurt yourself, or you give me permission to share!
Those are times where I may have to tell someone such as your teachers, principal or family.

I cannot tell you exactly how to solve all of your problems, but we can work together to make a plan to help you!
What will I do when I am with the school social worker?
It depends on what you need at that time. I may talk with students about their thoughts, feelings, friends, home life, schoolwork, behavior, etc. I also work with students teaching them useful skills, coping strategies and other tools to help better their success in school.
Why is it important to have someone at school who you can talk to in private?
So you can feel safe, be heard, and get help when you need it!

I am not here to punish you, but to help students learn and build skills. If an incident occurs and a student is feeling upset by it, that student may see me to help with these feelings, but I am not here to discipline!
What happens if the social worker I usually see is unavailable?
If it is not urgent, you can wait patiently until they become ready to see you. If it is urgent (you are feeling unsafe toward yourself or others), you can talk to another support person in the school!
