The school counselor follows a rule called confidentiality. What does that mean?

Anything that you talk with the school counselor about stays with the school counselor. I will only tell others about what we talk about if you are being harmed, wanting to harm yourself or others, or you give me permission to tell details to others.

How do you let the school counselor know you want to talk about something?

Come see me in my office. If I am not there or my door is closed, write me a "Let's Talk" note. You can also ask your teacher or parents to email me.

What is a small group counseling?

Counseling that takes place with just a few students. We discuss a topic that group members have in common such as friendships, anger, worry/anxiety, and much more.

No, but you may see me in your classroom from time to time!

Do I see the school counselor as punishment for misbehaving?

No. School counselors are here to listen and support. Sometimes your teacher, parent, or another admin might suggest meeting with me to learn new skills to help you do your best.

Will I get to see you right away if I write a note?

Not always. If you are having an emergency, I will get to you as soon as possible. Otherwise, I will meet with students in the order I received the notes.
