A positive symptom is something that is being added to the person (hallucination, delusion) while a negative symptom is something that is being taken away from a person (losing interest in things they used to enjoy, lack of emotion appropriate for a situation)

What are some symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity in ADHD?
Inattention is struggling to sustain attention during activities/making careless mistakes/easily sidetracked/forgetful in daily activities/distracted by extraneous stimuli Hyperactivity has to do with fidgeting/difficulty remaining seated/runs and climbs when inappropriate/blurting out answers/interrupts others/often on the go

Obsession- Upsetting scary thoughts or images that pop into a persons head Compulsion- Behaviors/rules a person makes that occur in attempt to make the bad thoughts (obsessions) go away.

List and explain 2 different types of delusions
Persecutory Delusions of persecution involve: 1. Suspicions of being targeted by someone or something 2. Belief that they are being followed, harmed, poisoned or tormented Referential These delusions include: 1. Belief that gestures and words of others are specifically directed at them ex. they become convinced that they are the focus of song lyrics, books or comments made by someone on television. Grandiose Delusions of grandeur are based on: 1. Person's mistaken idea that he is someone of extreme importance 2. Belief that they are a popular celebrity or a powerful political figure Religious Religious delusions are based on: 1. Belief that they have a special relationship with God or that God has given them special powers ex. They may profess an ability to speak directly to God or a responsibility to carry out God's plans 2. May actually believe that they are God. Somatic Somatic delusions involve 1. Beliefs that they are suffering from a physical condition, such as a tumor 2. Sometimes believing that there is a foreign substance in ones body Control Delusions of control involve the 1. Belief that one's thoughts and actions have been taken over by some outside force 2. Thoughts are taken from their mind without their consent 3. Their bodies are being manipulated to do certain things

Outbursts where a person fails to control their aggressive impulses through verbal aggression or physical aggression. Examples include temper tantrums, arguments, fighting or physical aggression that doesn’t result in physical damage or injury (twice a week for 3 months). There also has to be three outbursts that result in injury or property damage to animals or others over a year period.

Outbursts (verbally/physically) that are usually out of proportion to the situation Outbursts occur A LOT *three or more times per week Between outbursts there is a consistent irritable/angry mood for most of the day everyday These symptoms have to continue for a year They have to be present in 2 to 3 settings
