What is a crisis?

A crisis can happen to anyone. A crisis is described as a sudden, usually unexpected, difficult situation or circumstance.

Name 3 signs or symptoms of depression.

Depression can present itself in many ways, including (but not limited to): a feeling of hopelessness, almost always being tired & without energy, having trouble concentrating, eating too little or overeating, being very self-critical, body aches & pains, very low self-esteem, losing interest in activities you usually enjoy, feeling that nothing is important, thoughts about not wanting to live anymore, being irritated a lot of the time, sleeping too much or too little, etc.

What are the two types of stress? What is the difference between the two?

Positive Stress: sometimes things you enjoy or look forward to can be a source of pressure or stress, such as learning new things, making new friends, starting a new school, going on a first date, playing sports, etc.

Negative Stress: this comes from things you find unpleasant or threatening, such as exams, problems at school, moving to a new place, concern about your looks and the clothes you wear, being excluded or bullied, etc.

What is the difference between being sad and being depressed?

Sadness is usually more temporary and typically goes away when something pleasant happens vs. depression being more long term with heavier effects. (see pg. 54 in booklet).

What is severe depression?

If you often think about death or suicide, you may be suffering from severe depression. Thoughts of suicide are often linked to depression or a difficult crisis.
