The parent of a 43yo patient died 5 years ago from pancreatic cancer. Patient occasionally feels uncomfortably full after eating large, fatty meals, and fears that this was an early sign of pancreatic cancer. The patient had previously scheduled annual physicals, but now avoids seeing the doctor due to the fear of being diagnosed with cancer.
As we grow older, we tend to slow down our productivity and explore life as a retired person. If we see our lives as unproductive, feel guilt about our past, or feel that we did not accomplish our life goals, we become dissatisfied with life and develop despair, often leading to depression and hopelessness.
