Myth. Mental health problems have nothing to do with being lazy or weak and many people need help to get better. Many factors contribute to mental health problems, including: 1. Biological Factors, such as genes, physical illness, injury or brain chemistry. 2. Life experiences such as trauma or a history of abuse. 3. Family history of mental health problems.

Remember that progress takes time! Sometimes progress is measured simply by a client changing their outlook or thinking patterns, being receptive of things that they were once opposed to, or cognitively navigating through the stages of change. IIH and MHSB can't fix everything, and you all are not magicians with magic wands. It is not uncommon for change to take months and/or years. Our clients did not get to where they are over night- keep that in mind!
