-Points should be used for motivation. The On Task data is a pure measure and should not be messed with, but points can be added/taken in a way that will help shape student behavior.
Two Middle School classes are playing basketball during Open Court Free Time. The game is getting heated, and 1 student from another classroom is showing poor sportsmanship (running his mouth, committing hard fouls, and swearing). He has not responded to staff redirection.
His classroom staff doesn’t seem to be doing anything more than verbally redirecting him. Describe something you can do.
What is Use verbal structure to engage the student’s staff? - “ Ms. Jones, what do you guys do in your class when students are not playing appropriately, because in our class, they have to leave the court to take a break”. Student should have to take a break/ leave the game.
- Point loss for their antagonizing/inappropriate behavior.

A student had difficulty following directions on the way to Technology class and needed to take a walk with staff before he was able to join the class. After the walk the student requested to use the bathroom. The class had begun their activity by the time the student rejoined at 12:39pm. He did a nice job sitting down and jumped right into the assignment, following directions and staying on task for the remainder of the period.
