Do I have to pay for a library book that was damaged when it was checked out to me?

Yes!  If you bring back your book with any type of damage that is so severe it has to be removed from our library you will have to pay a fine or replace the book.

Why does Ms. Green ask students not to run in the library?

Students can trip and fall or injure themselves on a shelf edge. Students can get hurt.

What is the difference between returning a book and renewing a book?

When you return a book, you leave it with Ms. Green to check in and put back on the shelf for another student to check out.

When you renew a book, you have not finished reading it and want to keep it for another week.

If you have something important to share with another student or a friend, when would it be a good time to do that in the library?

When you have checked out your book and you are doing an activity or reading at a table.

If the pages of my book have gotten wet, what do I do when I bring the book to the library?

Tell Ms. Green when you are returning your book that it has water damage.  DO NOT JUST ADD THE BOOK TO THE RETURN PILE!

How should I walk into the library?

Use walking feet to come into the library.  Quietly sit down on the reading rug and wait for all the other students in your class to sit down.

I lost my library book and I am worried about telling my parents and Ms. Green.  On my library day, I know the right thing to do is to tell Ms. Green the book is lost even if I have to pay for it.  What PAWS skill is being used?

The student is ACTING RESPONSIBLY by being honest about losing their library book.

If I lose my book, what happens?

It is marked lost and a fine is added to your account.  A letter will go home to your parents and you will have to pay a fine or replace the book.

The spine of  your book can be damaged by:

Do not use the shelf markers to play swords or for hitting another student.
