In 1607, 105 colonists arrived in Virginia, there were many mosquitos and many settlers died of malaria. Governing the colony was very difficult and they spent a lot of their time looking for gold instead of focusing on how to survive.

In the Roanoke colony food became scarce so John White was sent back to England to return with food and resources. White remained in England for 3 years because of the prep for war, when he returned, the entire colony was missing. Nothing remained except for strange carvings of the word “Croatoan”.
