What is an interview?

You are interested in a certain field, have experience working in that field, it meets your wants and needs, you are happy or enjoy doing the work for that job

What are some signs of a bad conversation or someone is not interested in talking anymore?
The person isn't responding to your questions, there are long pauses, the person is acting distracted (not making eye contact, their body language is closed off), they aren't listening to what you have to say

Office interruptions, overwhelming workload, balancing work and personal life, procrastination, finding a system that works for you, large open-ended tasks

Don't interview the person, don't hog the conversation, don't get over personal at the beginning, don't tease, don't be argumentative
How can you exit a conversation?
State you have another place/event to get to, let the person know you are tired and would like to leave

Provide a sense of direction and clear focus, give yourself a target to aim for, helps sustain motivation and momentum

What does a typical day look like in this job? How is my progress measured and how often?
What are some tips to keep in mind when using humor?
Make sure the conversation is appropriate for a joke, your humor is age appropriate, avoid insult or dirty jokes, pay attention to humor feedback (are they laughing with you or at you)
What are good skills to use when having a conversation?
Act interested in the person's responses (body language, eye contact, not interrupting), give a compliment, make a comment, ask a question

School or work gossip, parties or get togethers, hobbies, weekend activities, books, movies, current events, sports
What are some differences or examples between long term and short term goals?
Short-term is something that can be accomplished in the near future, is smaller, usually leads to achieving long term; examples are taking a class, write a resume or paper, apply to a job.
Long-term takes a long time to accomplish, requires time and planning, more general; examples are graduating college, get a job, start my own business.
