What is our restraint policy? 

We are a 'hands-off' agency and do not restrain children. UMAB is required every year.

Least restrictive measures necessary for safety purposes.

Who completes learning plans and when do they need to be reviewed? 

CM completes learning plan - Foster parent is consulted during the development and review of a learning plan. 

Learning plan is reviewed every 3 months, at a annual review and prior to a new placement.

When does an SO level 2 need to be reported? 

FP reports immediately 

Carpe Diem has 24 hours to report to Ministry

What part of the medication policy applies when children/youth go on relief? 

Only adults handle medication. Medication must be transferred by adults and kept in a locked box at all times in any foster home.

Med transfer form is signed by each adult as med transfers occur

What does R.P.A.C stand for and what is it for? 

Residential Placement Advisory Commitee

A child or youth can request a review of their placement/request placement change

What is Duty to Report? 

Foster Parents are responsible for reporting suspected abuse & neglect of a child or teen directly to their local children's aid. 

Applys to any child/youth, not only those in their home.

What is a 'Resource Person'?

-Offered to child and biological family

- Supports child's indentity, culture and well-being

What is a psychotropic medication? 


Medication that affects behaviour, mood, thoughts or preception. Prescribed for mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, ADHD etc. 

Includes psychostimulants, anti-depressions, anti-anxiety, sedatives, hypnotics and anti-psychotics

At an admission and every POC. Safety plans are reviewed following an SO or an incident.

What is Carpe Diem's complaint procedure? 

Foster Parent must document in IR any claim a child/youth makes that is a violation of rights/service related. 

Leadership team debriefs with foster parent, and then child/youth (with ally) within 24 hours. Leadership team debriefs with any children in the home who were impacted.

Worker signs a psychotropic med form

Child/youth is informed about medication in terms they understand, and the side effects/interactions with other substances

Safety plan is reviewed with youth/FP/Worker and signed

What is a mechanical restraint and what paperwork is required? 

Any device that restricts a child/youth movement 

Mechanical Restraint form signed by doctor and CAS worker prior to using device. Mechanical restrain form re-signed at every POC. 

Use of mechnical restraint is ceased at earliest opportunity.
