What is the difference between a sound and a syllable?
Syllables have vowels in them. Words are broken up based on where the vowels are. Words can also be broken up into sounds or "letters" instead of vowel chunks.

How do we know if we should use "ow" or "ou"?
When you hear "ow" at the end use "ow". If you hear it at the beginning or inside a word use "ou" UNLESS it rhymes with down or owl.

How is a word family different from sounds?
Word families use different sounds placed together in order to create the beginning or ending of words.
