Before we began developing multilingual resources and programs, we worked with this PasP-funded partner to hold focus groups with Cantonese and Punjabi-speaking people with pain.
Who is iCON Health?
In spring 2025, we launched micro-sites to centralize our resources for these six languages.
What are Arabic, French, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Punjabi and Spanish?
Upgrading this content management system – required to allow our website to host multilingual content – introduced several days of bugs and unexpected website errors.

In a first for our team, we will soon begin advertising on this Chinese-language messaging platform to promote our programs and resources available in Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

This year, our team has been working to improve awareness of – and ease of access to – these Pain BC/Pain Canada multilingual resources and programs.
What are LPB+, downloadable info sheets, and PSWGs for Mandarin and Punjabi speakers?
They usually cover car accidents — but in this case, they're driving multilingual outreach by funding the development of our microsites.
Who is ICBC?
I guess we'll over-deliver! Our funding agreement only required us to create five microsites because it mistakenly counted these as one language.
What are Simplified and Traditional Chinese?
To reach Chinese-speaking communities, we're running ads in these two long-standing newspapers.
What are Ming Pao and Sing Tao?
Collectively, the comms team speaks this many languages yet, annoyingly, only one comes in handy for this project.

It’s easy to mix us up — but this similarly named partner funds much of our multilingual advertising.
Who is Pain Care BC?
While designed to appear as stand-alone microsites, out multilingual hubs are technically sub-pages of the Pain BC site, primarily to avoid version control issues with these.
What are the downloadable info sheets?
Microsite, macro-headache: Our downloadable info sheets disappeared from here after the microsites launched and had to be painstakingly added back one at a time.
What is the English Pain BC website?

That's determination – When requesting a letter of support for a funding application to expand our multilingual programming, Vibha gave speaking this language "a try" when talking to a non-English speaking client, despite not being able to speak it.

The funder okayed budget for this Pain Canada program for the initial translation of our downloadable info sheets, which now form the backbone of our multilingual resources.
What is Making Sense of Pain?
It is the only one of our multilingual programs and resources not currently featured on our microsites.

Installing the Raavi version of this was the fix that finally allowed our Punjabi content to render correctly across our documents and website.

This language caused the comms team to utter the most four-letter-words over the course of this work, partly because it's the only language not spoken by any current members of staff.

Beginning this summer, we'll be running ads in this Punjabi-language newspaper, which is read by more than 17,000 people each week.
