Interphase(Before and After)
Prophase
Metaphase
Anaphase
Telophase
100

What are the three parts of Interphase?

G1, S, and G2

100

How much time is spent in Prophase?

Up to half of the time mitosis takes to finish.

100

Is this phase the longest or the shortest?

Usually the shortest.

100

What are the sister chromatids considered when Anaphase begins?

They are considered individual chromosomes.

100

What happens after Telophase?

Mitosis (without cytokinesis) is complete.

200

What is Interphase?

The life of a cell as one cell division after another separated by an in-between period of growth.

200

What happens in Prophase?

The genetic material inside the nucleus condenses and the duplicated chromosomes become visible. A spindle also forms outside the nucleus.

200

What happens in Metaphase?

The centromeres of the duplicated chromosomes line up across the center of the cell. Spindle fibers connect to the centromere of each chromosome to the two poles of the spindle.

200

What happens during the Anaphase?

The chromosomes separate and move along spindle fibers to opposite ends of the cell. This ends when the chromosomes are separated into two groups.

200

What happens during Telophase?

The distinct and condensed chromosomes begin to spread into a tangle of chromatin. A nuclear envelope re-forms around each cluster of chromosomes. Also, the spindle breaks apart and a nucleolus becomes visible.

300

What happens in at least one of the processes...

G1: Cells increase in size and synthesize new                   proteins and organelles

S: DNA is synthesized when the chromosomes are         replicated

G2: The organelles and molecules needed for cell              division are produced

400

What happens after all phases are complete in cell division?

One of the cells leaves the cycle while the other cell waits for a signal to start the cycle again.

400

What is cytokinesis?

the splitting of cytoplasm

400

Is cytokinesis a phase of cell division?

No

400

What happens in cytokinesis?

Two daughter cells are made

400

What is the name of the middle of where the cell splits?

the cleavage furrow

500

What do Cyclins do?

They seem to regulate the cell cycle.

500

When were Cyclins first discovered?

the early 1980's

500

Where are the cyclins the most concentrated?

The S Phase

500

How many different cyclins are there?

4

500

What is the name of one of the phases

G1 start

G1 end

S
