What is a doctrine?
A doctrine is an eternal truth. For example, the word of wisdom is not a doctrine. It is a policy for behaviour, but it is based on doctrine. For instance, the doctrine for the word of wisdom could be, our bodies are divine, or our bodies are a temple that house the Holy Ghost.
“Doctrine cannot be changed.” (Boyd K. Packer in Conference Report, Oct. 1993, 29; or Ensign, Nov. 1993, 22).
“Doctrine refers to the eternal, unchanging, and simple truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There are several key words in that definition: eternal, unchanging, simple, and truth.
