Habituation in MOHO refers to what two components?

Roles and Habits

From the lense of MOHO, what subset is impacted from this statement: “I feel like I will not be successful going back to work.”

In community based rehabilitation the environment is modified so the client can carry out meaningful occupations. With our understanding of MOHO, why is environmental change important?

The environment interacts with a person's volition, habituation, and performance capacity to allow for or restrict occupation. Changing the environment to best suit the client will allow for more occupational performance

Look at the environment and see what factors lead into it: participation, performance, and skill. Depending on environment, the participation, performance, and skill could be affected

What approach is the MOHO influenced by and what does this approach emphasize?

The scholarship of practice --> emphasizes the need for constant dialogue between theory/research and practice. It ensured collaboration between all participants to share the responsibility for continuous development and application of the MOHO.

Name three assessment tools that are commonly tied to MOHO and support its approach?

Any of these: MOHOST, OCAIRS, PVQ, WRI, SCOPE and OTPAL, COSA, SSI, OPHI-II

How would we address this client scenario: “Client has a traumatic brain injury and is struggling with their identity and does not see themselves in the former role as a teacher.” Using MOHO, what approach could the therapist take in addressing role/identity loss and promote occupational performance?

Volition: reexplore values and interests of client

Habituation: assist in helping the client adopt a new or modified role

Performance capacity: support skill development by working on physical, cognitive, emotional, and social skills

How did MOHO’s development change the overall approach of OT practice?

MOHO encourage client centers and holistic approach that allowed change in evaluation, intervention, and assessment

Explain why physical and social environment should be considered when evaluating occupational performance.

An occupation someone does takes place in an environment and the environmental factors influence and guide a person's motivation, pattern, and performance in occupation

Gabby is a 50 year old mother of 4 children. She recently returned home from inpatient rehab after a sudden stroke. She noted that once being home she feels overwhelmed and says “My days are a blur and I don’t know where to start”. With our knowledge of MOHO, which subsystem is disrupted (why?) and what are  intervention strategies an OT could implement?

Habituation is disrupted because her routine and roles have been lost.

Interventions: An OT could work to help rebuild structure in her day like visual calendars and checklists. Some tasks that could be apart of her new routine are morning routine (self care), meal prep with family, scheduled rest times, bedtime, and wake up.
