Shapes on the planet's surface. (ex. hills or mountains)
What are landforms?
Sudden, violent movements of Earth's crust. These take place along faults, or breaks in Earth's crust where movement occurs.
What are Earthquakes?
Just like wind, these large streams of surface seawater-- move heat around Earth.
What are ocean currents?
The small pieces of rock which are produced by weathering.
What is sediment?
Measured over many years.
What is climate?
Large landmasses and are part of Earth's crust.
What are continents?
The short-term changes in the air for a given place and a given time.
What is weather?
The place where two air masses of different temperatures or moisture content meets.
What is a front?
ex. Cold Front or Warm Front
These are areas of low land located between mountains or hills.
What are valleys?
The temperature and precipitation from hour to hour or day to day.
What is weather?
Magma that reaches Earth's surface, and emerges from the gap that has formed.
What is lava?
A region's average weather conditions over a long period of time.
What is climate?
A small, rapidly twisting funnel of air that sometimes touches the ground.
What are tornadoes?
The land which rises more than 2,000 feet.
What are mountains?
This causes the sun's rays less direct and more spread out near the poles.
What is Earth's shape?
The theory which suggests that Earth's surface is divided into a dozen or so slow-moving pieces of Earth's surface.
What are plate tectonics?
The movement of sediment from one location to another. This wears away or builds up landforms. Wind, ice, and water all cause this.
What is erosion?
These blow in the same direction over large areas of Earth.
What are prevailing winds?
Pressure within the planet causes these to move.
What are plate tectonics?
Large bodies of water affect climate because of this.
What is making the temperature of land get milder?
The process by which rocks are broken down into smaller pieces.Daytime heating and nighttime cooling may cause this.
What is weathering?
This process is where rivers create floodplains when they flood their banks and deposit sediment along the banks.
What is alluvial deposition?
These can influence an area's climate by affecting both temperature and precipitation.
What are mountains?
Soil is fertile in river valleys.
What are settlements?
Snow is on the top of mountains in warm areas because the temperature does this.
What is decrease?
