Mark Twain was born in 1830s Florida. At four he moved to Hannibal, Mississippi and grew up there. He absorbed much of the culture and tradition of the south, eventually using his experiences to write The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

In the story Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, the two main characters, Huck and Jim, are running away from home for different reasons. Why is Jim running away from his home?
Jim is an escaped slave fleeing the south. Mark Twain gre up in antebellum Florida and later moved to Missouri. There he saw the pure suffering that slaves went through and it would go on to inspire Jim as a charterer. Shockingly for the time, Jim is depicted as a capable young man who can take care of himself, instead of the stupid and aimless portrayal of African Americans in the media at the time.

What hurricane does the couple run into?
Hurricane Raymond. During the storm Richard and Tami are heavily injured and knocked unconscious. Tami suffers a head wound as well as Richard. But both end up back on the boat after the storm.
Near the end of the story, after Jim has been recaptured, Huck struggles with what to do about the situation. What decision does he come to?
He decides to tell Jim's original owner where he is and who has her slave. After the pair is betrayed and Jim sold out to slave catchers, Huck struggles with what to do next. His only options are to either allow Jim to be taken away and sold to another owner, or write his original owner, telling her where her escaped slave went. While both of these options are bad, Huck believes it would be better to write Jim’s original owners as he at least has family there. He does this even though it will reveal that he helped Jim escape, something that would ruin your reputation in the south at the time. This shows the strength of Huck character as he is willing to help his friend despite being affected heavily himself by his course of action.
Who was the man who tried convince the natives to move to the reservation and eventually lead the war for the United States?
General Howard. He gave the natives an ultimatum: move to the reservation within 30 days or they would be forced to. Chief Joseph said no, the area was too small for his people and he was unwilling to give up his freedom. General Howard continued to threaten the Chief but he remained steadfast.
What does Tami see that gives her hope?
She spots a cargo ship and fires a few flares, hoping that it will rescue them. The cargo ship does not spot them and Tami believes that she must be hallucinating.
The next day Richard disappears and Tami realizes that she had been hallucinating that he was still alive the whole time
What conflict is Mark Twain and his work associate with?
The civil war. Most of Twain's work have to do with the racial tension of the time. Slavery is center stage and he is not flowery in his depiction of it. He was a adamant abolitionist and used his writings to depict the horror and dehumanization of slavery.
What was the central misunderstanding that lead to war between the natives and the US government?
The natives had no concept of land ownership. When the native Chief by the title “lawyer” signed the orinally treaty, he believed the “ownership” the document spoke of was simply allowing Americans to use native land without being attacked. This misunderstanding lead to war when America began to claim native land and attack natives who went onto it.
