Courtroom Characters
A body of persons sworn to judge and give a verdict on a matter.
What is a jury?
A sentence of punishment by execution.
What is the death penalty?
Used in scene headings to indicate that a scene will be shot outside.
What is Exterior (EXT.)?
A camera positioned from the point of view of a particular character.
What is point of view (P.O.V.)?
A public official who hears and decides cases brought before a court of law.
What is a judge?
The unlawful killing of one human by another without intent to do harm.
What is manslaughter?
A scene heading which indicates that the scene will be shot inside.
What is Interior (INT.)?
A camera shot which emphasizes some part of an actor or object.
What is a close-up (C.U.)?
One who can give a firsthand account of something; called on to testify before a court.
What is a witness?
Judgment that a defendant is not guilty of a criminal charge; being found or proved not guilty.
What is acquittal?
A character's voice heard over a scene, as in narration, a tape-recorded voice, or a voice heard over the phone.
What is a voice over (V.O.)?
A scene ending which varies with use, but is often used when cutting back and forth between two locations.
What is Cut To?
The lawyer/s acting for the state to put the case against the defendant.
What is the prosecution?
The finding of a jury in a trial; an expressed conclusion, judgment, or opinion.
What is a verdict?
Dramatic rhythm in which events in a story build upon one another with increasing momentum.
What is rising action?
Scene ending which is used in television at the end of an act, or at the very end of a feature film.
What is Fade Out?
The prosecuting officer of a judicial district.
What is a district attorney?
The level of certainty a juror must have to find a defendant guilty of a crime.
What is reasonable doubt?
Dialogue or sounds heard while the camera is on another subject.
What is off screen (O.S.)?
A scene ending indicating that the final shot should gradually fade into the next scene.
