Do Highlands students have to live on campus?
No. Highlands students have the option to live in the Residence Halls on main campus.

Do students get to choose their roommates and where are athletes placed?
Residence Hall assignments are first come, first serve and do not change if the student is an athlete. To choose your roommate, both students need to list the opposite person they would like to room with on their application.

Is there transportation for students out to Highlands?
There is a city bus that arrives on Main Campus every hour. Students are welcome to utilize this bus for free with their student ID.

Is alcohol allowed in Residence Halls?
LLC students who are 21+ are permitted to have alcohol in their rooms. Centennial and Prospector are dry dorms. ResLife hosts an array of social events for students to mingle and get to know each other safely.
What is the Montana Bureau of Mines & Geology? What resource does it have?
The office that focuses on development of groundwater and minerals in Montana and provides jobs and internship opportunities for students.
It has a library students may use for research projects and to purchase publications.
What is the system that supports a holistic student experience - if students are struggling with college? Where is this area located?

Can students use their meal plans at Highlands College?
Yes. Highlands College's cafeteria is open Monday through Thursday, for breakfast and lunch. Students can use their Digger Card out there for meals.
Do all first year students have to live on campus?
No. First year students with close family, children, or spouses, or if they are pursuing a Highlands College degree, do not have to live on campus their first year.
Is Butte safe?
Butte's crime rate is typical for a city this size. Montana Tech publishes an annual fire and security report that is accessible online for review as well. Residence Halls require a key card entry and campus security is available.
Who is Marcus Daley?
One of three Copper Kings who came west in the late 1800s in search of fortune in mining. He was the owner of the Anaconda Copper Mine.

When should students apply for housing?
Tech encourages students to apply for housing as soon as possible (by December prior to the fall they start). Residence Hall assignments are based on a first come first serve basis by the order apps and deposits are submitted.
What comes in a standard dorm room? Can Bobby bring an air fryer?
Each room comes with extra-long twin bed frame and mattress, desk, chair, dresser and trashcan. Our housing page online has a full list of recommended and permitted items students can have.
