What year was the first Kiwanis Club formed?

January 21, 1915

This is regarded as the birth date of Kiwanis. The first clubs were organized to promote the exchange of business among the members.

Since 1987, the organization also accepts women as members.

300

Which molecule in our atmosphere allows UV light to be transmitted and ultimately reach Earth?

Carbon dioxide

Where did the name Kiwanis come from?

The name "Kiwanis" was coined from an American Indian expression, "Nunc Kee-wanis," which means, "We trade." A more thorough check later revealed that a truer meaning is, “We have a good time - we make noise.”

Who does Kiwanis partner with in the current global campaign, The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal/neonatal tetanus?

Their current global partner is UNICEF: the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund which was formed in 1946.

500

If there was an equal amount of UV light on every part of our planet would you expect there to be different skin tones? Defend your statement.

No, everyone would manufacture the same amount of melanin to protect their genetic material.

500

a type of invisible light that is beyond violet on the spectrum

ultraviolet

500

What part of visible light has the greatest wavelength and which part of light has the greatest frequency?

red has longest wavelength's and violet has the greatest frequency.

500

What would you expect to happen to the skin cancer rate if there is a high concentration of sulfuric acid droplets in our atmosphere? carbon dioxide? Ozone?

Sulfuric acid droplets reflect UV light from getting to Earth, therefore causing a lower rate of skin cancer.

Carbon dioxide allows UV light to travel to Earth relatively undisturbed so the skin rate should go up.

Ozone absorbs UV light, so not much UV radiation would reach the Earth causing a lower skin cancer rate.
