The Miracle of the Gulls is where flocks of seagulls are believed to have miraculously saved the crops of early Mormon pioneers in the Salt Lake Valley from a plague of crickets. In 1848, after the pioneers' second harvest was threatened by crickets, they prayed for deliverance. Seagulls then appeared in large numbers, devouring the crickets and saving the crops.
