What is a comma splice and how can we fix one?

A comma splice is when two independent clauses are joined (or separated) merely by a comma. A comma is not enough to stand between two independent clauses. In order to fix them, we can join them with a coordinating conjunction or we can separate them by using a variety of punctuation marks.
