The United States government was not created in a day. In fact, many steps were taken to create the government that people are familiar with today. First, the Americans had to break free from the British. In 1776, the Founding Fathers created the Declaration of Independence to do that. 

Once the United States gained its independence, there was much more to be done. The Founding Fathers got together for many meetings and created a set of laws that, at first, did not work. Finally, in 1787, with hard work and compromise, the Constitution was written.
