Occurs when a behavior is followed immediately by the presentation of a stimulus that increases the future frequency of the behavior in similar situations.

Negative reinforcement occurs when a certain stimulus (usually an aversive stimulus) is removed after a particular behavior is exhibited. The likelihood of the particular behavior occurring again in the future is increased because of removing/avoiding the negative consequence.

Examples (but not limited to): scrub-in/out, sanitizing before leaving, RBT's and clients being 6 feet a part in hallways, rooms, etc., room quadrants by tape, washing hands for 20 seconds/frequently, not sharing items between clients, discontinued social groups, etc.

Client errors.

1. Restate SD and prompt correct response    
   - reinforce and provide mild praise
2. Represent with faded prompt (transfer trial) - mild praise
3. (If possible) Represent SD and try for independence
3. Distract with 1-2 related SD's (same modality)
4. Represent SD
   - if independent give "more" praise but not item/activity they were originally working for
   - if client errors, go back to step 1 (for a max of 3 cycles - on the last cycle, prompt the correct response and move on)
5. Client errored so no reinforcer, trial marked as incorrect
