Where in a passage can I find the main idea and how do I know it is the main idea?

The main idea can be found as who, what, when, where, how, and why. Sometimes not all parts are given, but what is the most important information being said in the beginning and conclusion and of course throughout the text that you will see repeated with more information about the main idea.

How can I use context clues?

You should use a dictionary, read around the word that you do not know and figure out the words that you do understand to help you connect what the word you don't know is. Then, you want to try and figure out the main idea of the passage depending on the words you are trying to learn are to help connect with the words you do not know.

What does the word, "rhythmic" mean?


The train whistle echoed through the night, a rhythmic sound of distant travel. Passengers watched as landscapes blurred, each destination a mystery, but the journey—always a comforting, endless motion.

Having to do with rhythm - in this case - the train sounds are making a beat. For example - the train whistle, the people in the cabins, the wheels on the train.

You will write at least 4 paragraphs and think of HRA, ACE, ACE, Summary

Meaning:

Paragraph 1: Write a hook - give background information about the topic. Rephrase the question and answer the question with at least two answers/thoughts.


Paragraph 2 and 3: Each paragraph here will have one of your 2 answers and then include text evidence that connects with the answer and then explain the connection and support.
